Practical information

Taxis are everywhere on Djerba and it is easy to flag one down at the roadside. They all have a meter and fares are really cheap: allow around 500 millimes, i.e. 1/2 Dinar = €1/4, per km.

Drivers understand enough French to take you wherever you want to go, and they all have a mobile phone and are readily available: just call them and they will come and pick you up. To Dar Ennour, for example, allow €1 to €2 for the empty run from Houmt Souk, but it is best to agree on this at the outset.
Ideally, get a Tunisian mobile number to make contact easier.

On Djerba, having your own car gives you independence and makes getting around very easy. The island has modern roads and traffic flows easily. Prices vary considerably depending on the season and the model of car. On average, a day’s hire costs between 20 and 50 euros.
